Cairo (Thomas) – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is eager to find a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian problem, which is the main starting point for the kingdom’s Arab Peace Initiative proposal.
The information was communicated by King Salman of Saudi Arabia to the President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, by telephone, on Sunday.
The leaders spoke by phone after a historic US-brokered deal last month, in which the United Arab Emirates agreed to become the third Arab country to normalize relations with Israel after Egypt and Jordan.

King Salman told Trump that he appreciates US efforts to support peace and that Saudi Arabia wants to see a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian problem based on the Arab peace initiative proposed by the kingdom in 2002.
Under the proposal, the Arab states offered normalized relations to Israel in exchange for a state agreement with Palestine and Israel’s total withdrawal from the territory captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam and the location of the most sacred holy sites, does not recognize Israel.
However, this month, the kingdom announced that it would allow flights between the United Arab Emirates and Israel, including by Israeli aircraft, to use its airspace.
White House adviser and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner said he expects other Arab countries to normalize relations in a few months.
No other Arab country has said that it has so far considered following the UAE’s example.
King Salman’s son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Kushner discussed the need for Palestine and Israel to continue negotiations and achieve lasting peace after Kushner visited the United Arab Emirates last month.
The United Arab Emirates-Israel agreement was fulfilled by overwhelming Palestinian opposition.
